Jack Shuler is an author, independent journalist, and essayist based in Ohio. He is the author of four books including This is Ohio: The Overdose Crisis and the Front Lines of a New America (Counterpoint, 2020). With Michael Croley he edited Midland: Reports from Flyover Country (Tiller/Simon and Schuster, 2020). His work has appeared in The New RepublicThe Atlantic, The Christian Science Monitor, Salon100 Days in Appalachia, among others. He teaches at Denison University where he directs the Narrative Journalism program.
